Crisscrossed lures continue to wind
around each other while wrathful
waves rock the boat. They all yell
and debate, wondering if she
will sink or float.
Fear drifts back to the bottom
of the trench. Fear tethers back
to being tender bait on a hook,
scraping over sea floor sand.
The splashing waves send out
stenches of salt and brine.
The break in the chaos allows
clarity to release everything
else trapped in here. Debris
cling to the edges, woven
as tight as fishing nets.
Afterwards, notice the firm details.
Pay attention to how both feet
feel, when they stay anchored
to a plain-sailing surface.
